You've been burned before. We know. Every brand makes the same claims. Here's the part where we actually explain ourselves.
The coating — why ours is different
No. And we understand why you're asking — you've probably heard this claim before from brands that didn't deliver. So instead of just saying "no," here's why:
Most jewelry uses electroplating — a thin gold layer applied over a base metal. It wears off in months because it's essentially just surface-level. When it wears through, the base metal reacts with your skin and sweat, which causes the green marks.
We use PVD coating — Physical Vapor Deposition. It bonds gold to the steel at a molecular level under extreme heat. It doesn't sit on top of the metal. It becomes part of it. That's why it doesn't flake, fade, or react.
It's our three-layer coating process applied to every piece before it leaves production:
- Layer 1 — Surgical stainless steel base: Corrosion-resistant, hypoallergenic, and built to last. This is the foundation everything else bonds to.
- Layer 2 — 18k gold: A rich, even gold finish applied directly onto the steel.
- Layer 3 — PVD seal: The protective coat applied through Physical Vapor Deposition. This is what locks everything in and shields against sweat, water, and daily wear.
The same PVD process is used in precision surgical instruments and high-end watch manufacturing. It's not a marketing claim — it's a production process.
Because those brands are using the same electroplating process and calling it something different. "Waterproof," "anti-tarnish," "18k gold filled" — these are all marketing terms layered over the same basic technique.
The difference is structural. Electroplating adds a layer. PVD bonding changes the surface. One wears off. One doesn't.
The math: a $25 plated ring replaced 6 times a year costs $150 annually. Our pieces are $45-$70 and haven't needed replacing in 8-12+ months of daily wear by thousands of customers.
Wearability — real life answers
Yes. 100%. The PVD coating is water-resistant and the surgical steel base doesn't rust or corrode. The majority of our customers wear their pieces 24/7 — shower, gym, beach, sleep.
One tip: after extended salt water or chlorine exposure, a quick rinse with fresh water keeps it looking its best.
No. We use nickel-free surgical stainless steel — the same grade used in medical implants and surgical instruments. It's hypoallergenic by standard.
Skin reactions from jewelry are almost always caused by nickel in the base metal, or by the base metal being exposed when the plating wears off. Neither of those happens here: we don't use nickel, and the PVD seal means the base metal stays covered.
We have customers with documented nickel sensitivities and reactive skin who report zero irritation after months of continuous wear.

Because we don't sell a logo. We sell the process.
Designer jewelry pricing is driven by brand positioning, retail markups, flagship stores, and advertising budgets — not by the materials or the coating process. The PVD process used on high-end watches costs the same whether the company charges $50 for the final piece or $5,000.
We're DTC. No middleman, no retail margin, no logo premium. You pay for the coating, the steel, and the craftsmanship. That's it.
